Club Information

“We shall endeavor to do all in our power to protect the health and welfare of the Shih Tzu breed.  To urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which the Shih Tzu shall be judged.  We shall advance the interests of the breed by providing educational programs and encouraging sportsmanlike competition in all events at all times.

The Shih Tzu Club of Wisconsin’s Fox Valley was organized in 2001, approved by the American Kennel Club (AKC), and is local club member of the American Shih Tzu Club (ASTC).   Click here for our  Code of Ethics

We are recognized as a specialty breed club for Shih Tzu.  We encourage and promote quality in the breeding of purebred Shih Tzu and do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection.  We provide a wide range of services to the public and our membership.   These services include: Breed education, sales, adoptions and placements; assistance to breeders, owners and buyers; sponsor club activities; activities mentorship; donate to charitable, non-profit causes to protect, provide for and improve Shih Tzu.

Whether we hold our monthly local Club meeting in a local restaurant, another public facility or a member’s home, we are sure to have a good time!

Our club serves the communities of Outagamie, Winnebago, Calumet, Waushara, Waupaca and Green Lake Counties.  We have members outside of these areas but concentrate our local membership to these regions.

BYLAWS

ARTICLE I – Membership

SECTION 1.   Eligibility.

There shall be five types of membership open to those persons who are in good standing with The American Kennel Club and who subscribe to the purposes of the Club and its bylaws.  While membership is to be unrestricted as to residence, the club’s primary purpose is to be representative of the breeders and exhibitors in its immediate area.

SECTION 2.   Classes of Membership.

a.         Regular Membership.  All persons 18 years of age or older who are in good standing with The American Kennel Club and who subscribe to the purposes of this Club and its bylaws.  This type of membership enjoys all the privileges of the Club including the right to vote and hold office.

b.         Household Membership.  Two persons 18 years or older and any children, residing at the same address as one household or family, who are in good standing with The American Kennel Club and who subscribe to the purposes of this Club and its bylaws.  This type of membership includes two adults (18 and older) per household who are entitled to all privileges of the Club including the right to two votes per household membership and to hold office.  Children of the same household (under 18 years of age) do not vote or hold office.

c.         Junior Membership.  Junior memberships are provided for those persons 10-17 years of age.  Junior members may not vote or hold office.  They may convert to regular membership upon reaching their 18th birthday.  Junior members do not count in determining a quorum.

d.         Associate Membership.  All persons 18 years of age or older who are in good standing with The American Kennel Club and who subscribe to the purposes of this Club and its bylaws.  This type of membership enjoys all the privileges of the Club but does not vote or hold office.  Associate members do not count in determining a quorum.

e.         Life Membership.  All persons 18 years of age or older in good standing with The American Kennel Club and who subscribe to the purposes of this Club and its bylaws, who have been members of this Club for a minimum of 20 consecutive years.  This type of membership requires 2/3 majority vote of the Board of Directors.  Life members shall enjoy all privileges of regular membership; they shall be exempt from paying dues.

SECTION 3.   Dues.

Membership dues shall not exceed $30.00 per year for all types of membership, payable on or before the 1st day of January each year.  No member may vote whose dues are not paid for the current year.  During the month November, the Treasurer shall send to each member a statement of dues for the ensuing year.

SECTION 4.   Application to Membership.

a.         Each applicant for membership shall apply on a form as approved by the Board of Directors and which shall provide that the applicant agrees to abide by these Constitution and bylaws, and the rules of The American Kennel Club.

b.         Each applicant shall be provided a copy of the Constitution and bylaws and all ethics related club publications.

c.         The application shall state the name, address and occupation of the applicant and shall provide such other information as the Board of Directors shall deem helpful in ascertaining the applicant’s qualification for membership.  The application shall carry the endorsement of two members in good standing, who are not related to the applicant or to each other nor of the same household.

SECTION 5.   Election to Membership.

a.         All applications are to be filed with the Membership Secretary and each application is to be read at the first meeting of the club following its receipt.  At the next club meeting the application will be voted upon and affirmative votes of 2/3 of the members present and voting by secret ballot at that meeting shall be required to elect the applicant.

b.         The Membership Secretary will advise the applicant of receipt of application and procedure of processing same.  The Membership Secretary will notify new members of their election to membership and the club Secretary for the club’s membership rolls.

c.         Applicants for membership who have been rejected by the club may not re-apply with six months after such rejection.

SECTION 6.   Termination of Membership.

a.         by resignation.  Any member in good standing may resign from the club upon written notice to the Secretary, but no member may resign when in debt to the club.  Obligations other than dues are considered a debt to the club and must be paid in full prior to resignation.

b.         by lapsing.  A membership will be considered as lapsed and automatically terminated if such member’s dues remain unpaid 30 days after the first day of the fiscal year; however, the board may grant an addition 30 days of grace to such delinquent members in meritorious cases.  In no case may a person be entitled to vote at any club meeting whose dues are unpaid as the date of that meeting.

c.         by expulsion.  A membership may be terminated by expulsion as provided in Article VI of these bylaws.
